DROP IT
Virtual shape studies in Grasshopper 3D.
Computational design in Rhino 3D and Grasshopper 3D is an effective method to quickly simplify and realize complexity. In this exploration, iterative shape transformation was performed on the basis of a basic shape in combination with structures from the emotion calm to exciting. The script is constructed in such a way that it allows to automate thousands of shapes and to render them simultaneously (VRay) and to provide data for their production. Programming shapes means creating shapes, graphics or processes based on given conditions (e.g. manufacturing, statistics, marketing, interfaces, etc.) or evaluating the best result as quickly as possible. In this case, a modification was added to the basic shape, which was exported as an STL file for 3D printing (additive manufacturing) and at the same time a suitable rendering was attached to the object. Thus, hundreds of manufacturable shapes were created overnight, sorted and visualized. Drop-It is only a small sample of what is possible with Computational Design (also called Parametric Design or Allgorithmic Design).
